Miss Dana PDF  | Print |
ImageFor the last 23 years, Dana Hein-Skaggs has been passionately guiding and nurturing children in a variety of areas.

In the 80s she enjoyed her experience as a Montessori Teacher's Assistant and Specialty Art Project Creator. The adventure of homeschooling her daughter for two years was intensely fulfilling emotionally as well as academically, both mother and daughter flourished.

Five years of escorting children, ages 12 and up around the world as a Teacher Leader with the People to People Student Ambassador Program was definitely a valuable life expanding experience for all.

Being enthusiastic about physical fitness for children, she started Kiderobics in the early 90s, a successful, fun, low-impact aerobic exercise program designed for pre-school age children through pre-teens offered by Redmond, Kirkland, and Bellevue Parks and Recreation Departments respectively.

Another of her passions is teaching ecological sustainability to children. After taking the Environmental Horticulture program at Lake Washington Technical College and owning a worm composting company, Moon Dog Creek Farm, she is devoted to cultivating and directing inquisitiveness and that brilliant, wide-eyed sense of discovery. What better stewards to take care of their home, Mother Earth!

Beyond that, Dana has been teaching children of all ages to dance, (tap, jazz, ballet, and modern), as a performing art in local dance studios for over 20 years and is teaching presently at Gotta Dance in Redmond.

Within the last year, she has created an overwhelmingly well received and rewarding yoga program for children, called Kid Yoga. Her extensive education as a yoga instructor is ongoing and currently, at the Samarya Center in Seattle, she is studying Integrated Movement Therapy, a type of therapy that uses yoga's philosophical, physical, and spiritual framework in conjunction with conventional neuro-physiological perspectives to address the challenges of being human.

Ultimately, Dana's intention is to foster an environment for children that encourages them to uncover their inherent creativity, to recognize the connection we share between each other and the earth,  and to enjoy this once in a lifetime period of "just being a kid."
