Redmond’s “Orange Blossom Society” Offers Unique Ways for Children to Give Back to the Community - November 2010

Local business provides bridge to Eastside Baby Corner as a drop-off location and offers holiday classes that allow little hands to be helping hands

REDMOND, Wash. (November 2, 2010) – Downtown Redmond’s Orange Blossom Society, a place for kids to blossom while parents recharge and reconnect, is connecting to the community this holiday season. Serving as a drop-off location for Eastside Baby Corner through November 30, Orange Blossom Society is making it easy for Redmond residents to come with their children to drop off diapers, baby formula or other new supplies for children ages birth through age 12. The Ruby Slipper Guide is partnering with Orange Blossom Society for this drive for Eastside Baby Corner.

Orange Blossom Society Founder Sharman Ghio, mother of two, is committed to giving back to the local community and providing ways for children to participate in giving. “Children have so much to give back and their creativity, compassion and energy can work together to improve and brighten the lives of those around them,” she said. “At Orange Blossom Society, we’re trying to make giving back an integral part of children’s overall education and enrichment and provide meaningful opportunities for kids to get involved.”

Orange Blossom Society is also offering many special camps and classes this holiday season where children can create masterpieces to show their gratitude to loved ones and community members. Some of the camps and classes being offered are included below.

  • Thursday, November 11 – School’s Out Camp – Giving Thanks - Make crafts, create cards and reflect on all of the things we are thankful for in life.
  • Friday, November 12 – School’s Out Camp – Cooking Nutrition and Manners – Just in time for Thanksgiving!
  • Friday, November 19 – Thanksgiving Cards and Cookies – Create Thanksgiving cards and cookies for firefighters, police officers, librarians, and teachers.
  • Friday, December 3 – Holiday Centerpieces – Make frosted candle holders, holiday table runners and more! Come create the decorations for the holidays!
  • Saturday, December 11 – Holiday Cards and Cookies – Create holiday cards and cookies for moms, dads, brothers, sisters, grandparents, teachers or other special people.
  • Saturday, December 18 – Holiday Cards for Senior Center - Let's not forget the people who have started our community. We will create personal cards for the seniors in our community.

About Orange Blossom Society
The Orange Blossom Society, located in downtown Redmond, Wash., is a place where children blossom while their parents recharge and reconnect. Whether your child is one or 11, we all need that place where we can take some time for ourselves, work with our child on a community project, or just simply be in the moment and visit with friends and family.  There’s no judgment or competition, strict rules or policies, it’s just an easy place to be that feels good and natural.

Orange Blossom Society is located in a beautiful tri-level craftsman house where kids walk in the door, kick off their shoes and feel right at home.  Our comfortable living room is always available for parents to enjoy free Wi-Fi and refreshments from the kitchen while their child plays or is in a class or camp. Upstairs, you will find rooms for art, afterschool programs, and massage.  Downstairs there’s space for yoga, tumbling, creative play and more. And outside (yes, there’s more!) you’ll find plenty of parking, a sports court and magical Children’s Garden.  It’s the perfect spot for a play date, family-friendly event, or that workshop or support group you need.

We are open to the public so membership is not required, but definitely has its benefits - free play, unlimited classes, discounts on camps & parties.  Our founder and instructors are following their true calling and are passionate, experienced and committed to the work that they do.  Most importantly, OBS was created for the families of our community – it’s your place to use however it fits your family best.  We look forward to making you feel at home at Orange Blossom Society.
