Enrichment Center and Special Needs Group Team-up to Benefit the Whole Family

Orange Blossom Society and Aspiring Youth provide support to families of special needs children and their siblings.   Open House scheduled for July 20th, 4:00-6:00pm.

REDMOND, Wash. (June 6, 2011) Families of children with special needs face many challenges, some of which will be solved by the partnership between Orange Blossom Society and Aspiring Youth. The two organizations will begin a partnership which will provide support and services to children and young adults with Asperger’s Syndrome and ADHD as well as for their siblings with typical development. Additionally a parent’s support group will be offered to provide support to the whole family.

Aspiring Youth Programs operate under the Ryther Child Center umbrella of services and are part of a non-profit organization. They are the largest provider of support services for adolescents with Asperger’s Syndrome and ADHD in the Seattle area, serving families in Portland, Seattle, Kirkland, Bellevue and now Redmond. “We truly feel like we’ve found a synergistic partner in Orange Blossom Society. The collaboration allows our families to experience what families with typical children experience on a regular basis; a welcoming environment with no judgments. It’s especially valuable that parents have a place where siblings can also connect.” says Benjamin Wahl, Aspiring Youth’s Program Director.

The Aspiring Youth Program consists of:

  • Summer Outdoor Leadership camp sessions for children, teens and young adults ages 9-24: Explorers Camp, ROLP Teens and Delphi Summer Internship.
  • Social skills groups
  • Individual coaching
  • Young adult transition support

An Open House is scheduled for Wednesday, July 20th from 4:00-6:00pm at Orange Blossom Society. Families are invited to come and meet instructors, counselors and tour the facility. Those families unable to make this date or prefer a private meeting are welcome to schedule an appointment by calling Benjamin Wahl at 206-856-9490.

Sharman Ghio, Managing Director of Orange Blossom Society concludes, “We’re proud of the work we’re doing in conjunction with Aspiring Youth. To have parents, special needs kids and their siblings all on-site each participating in an enriching experience; it warms our hearts and establishes the importance of community and our purpose”. Orange Blossom Society also offers enrichment activities such as a fine arts program, hands-on children’s garden, yoga for kids and events in downtown Redmond in a 1920’s craftsman house on ½ acre.

Families who are interested in attending the July 20th event and who desire more information may visit the organizations web sites at http://www.aspiringyouth.net and http://www.orangeblossomsociety.com or follow OBS on twitter at http://twitter.com/OBSociety.
